Should New Zealanders have access to a service that tracks historical rent prices by area?
New Zealand has extensive rental price data but it’s fragmented, technical, and not easily accessible to everyday renters. A platform that visualises historical rent prices across suburbs would improve transparency in the housing market by allowing renters to see how prices have changed over time. For policymakers and researchers, it would provide clearer insight into affordability trends and regional disparities. Design challenges may include data accuracy, protecting privacy, and avoiding misinterpretation of volatile short-term trends.
